Brief Introduction to
Ya Shi Xiang Dan Cong Oolong
Ya Shi Xiang Dancong grows in Phoenix Mountain, Chaozhou, China’s Guangdong Province, and the name means “duck dropping fragrance” in Chinese. You may doubt why this tea gets so popular despite that it’s given such an indelicate name. In truth, this tea does not really have the flavor of duck dropping, there is a story about the origin of this name: many years ago, a farmer in Chaozhou breed a new cultivar by grafting, and the tea soup brewed from this cultivar revealed fantastic fragrance. His neighbors and friends were very amazed by the special aroma and fragrance of the tea, and they all asked him about the tea cultivar. The farmer was afraid that they would steal tea seeds from his new invented cultivar. So he made up this horrible name “Ya Shi Xiang” (literally as Duck Dropping Fragrance) and tried to depress them. Unexpectedly, people were more impressed by this very funny and special name, and this tea cultivar spread rapidly. And now Ya Shi Xiang has been recognized as one of the most famous Phoenix Dan Congs.
