Brief Introduction to
Dong Fang Hong (Oriental Red) Dan Cong Oolong


Dong Fang Hong Dan Cong Oolong (literally as Oriental Red) grows in Phoenix Mountain, Chaozhou, China’s Guangdong Province. It grows wild in the very rocky area in Phoenix Mountain. It has quite high flower aroma. In 1970’s, Dong Fang Hong Dancong was chosen as the best tea to sent to Chairman Mao, former Chinese president who is universally acknowledged as a great man in China. Chairman Mao’s office sent back a thank you letter after Mao tried the tea. The letter says Mao loved it very much . From then on , this tea was named Dong Fang Hong (Oriental Red) which means very good quality and famous. Actually this tea has a history more than 300 years, before Dong Fang Hong, it was named by the local farmer with a slang which is hard to spell in Chinese.
